Metalloplan Largefield Metallographic Research Microscope
Incident-light metallographic research microscope by Ernst Leitz Wetzlar, supplied with a four objective nosepiece covering 10X, 20X, 50X and 100X.
Overview
A heavy stand metallographic research microscope made by Ernst Leitz Wetzlar in Germany. It is configured for incident, or reflected, light, which suits flat polished and opaque samples — metallurgy, semiconductor work and mineralogy.
The instrument carries a four objective nosepiece fitted with 10X, 20X, 50X and 100X objectives, all marked Leitz Wetzlar Germany. The 10X is an NPL 10X/0.20, visible in the photographs. The largefield design gives a wider field of view than a standard research microscope, which makes it well suited to scanning a surface before moving in on a detail.
The stand is the heavy, vibration resistant pattern Leitz used on this series. Illumination is driven by a separate lamp power supply and an illuminator control unit, both of which are included and shown in the photographs.
